### Period 1 Math

#### Classwork for Mon. 03/30, due Tue. 03/31

Were you able to get outside this weekend?  I went for a run and a bike ride!   I saw these flowers in my lawn on Saturday afternoon - a sure sign that spring is here!

Good morning!  Happy Monday!

On to our third week of distance learning - you are all doing awesome!   Thank you to all the students that joined my google classroom.  Please join if you are one of the few that have not yet.

Thank you also to all of you that turned in your google classroom assignment from Friday.  I know this is a new process, but you are really doing well adapting to it.   Today there will be only one google classroom assignment that you will attach both your Khan Academy and IXL screen shots to.  For Khan, you can take a screen shot right after you finish a topic and the score summary comes up or you can take a screenshot of the assignment page with your scores.  For IXL you can take a screen shot of the page where you do your with a score that is 80 or higher or you can you screen shot the page with all of the topics with your score next to the assigned topic.  It does not matter to me which you choose.

It has been difficult for a lot of you to get to a google meet by 9:00am.   I am going to move my meet time to be from 10:00 am until noon.  It will be a regular "drop in" time where you can stop by and ask questions or chat.  You can use the same link that we have been using.

Today you will be working on dividing  fractions by fractions.  You need to watch three videos and complete one Khan Academy practice and one IXL practice.  Please turn in all work in Google Classroom.

As always, please email me with any questions.

Have a great day!

I just finished this book that I borrowed from Mrs. Gurnee.   I really enjoyed it!  What are you reading?

Good morning! Happy Friday!

We finished our first full week of remote learning!  I am so proud of all the work that you have been doing!

I have received a few questions about the Khan Academy topics that were due before all of this distance learning started.   I split the Khan Academy topics into two halves.  The first half is for the lessons that we covered and is due on Tuesday, April 7th.   The second half is on the lessons that we haven't covered yet.  I would have deleted the assignments for the second half, but I didn't want to lose the work that students have already done, so I have moved those to be due Thursday, May 7th.  Please don't worry about finishing the assignments from the second half.  We will start new learning at some point and will be able to finish those topics by then.

You probably also noticed that you received a Google Classroom invitation from me.   Since it seems like we will be doing this "distance learning" thing for a while, I thought that google classroom would make things a bit easier.   I will still make website posts for now, but I will also make assignments in gooogle classroom.  YOU WILL NEED TO TURN IN YOUR GOOGLE CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS.  You will need to attach a screen shot for each completed Khan and IXL topic.  Please see the classroom for more information.

My google meet today will be a regular drop in. I will be in my "office" from 9am -11am. You can use the same link that we have been using.

Today you will be working on dividing unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions.  The IXL topic switches between the both, so be sure to pay attention!

As always, please email me with any questions.

Have a great day!

This was yesterday's beautiful sunrise from my front porch!

Good morning! Happy Thursday!

It was fun doing the class Quizizzes (is that is a word?!?) during the class hangouts yesterday! We will have to try that again next week. And I heard the message loud and clear from Period 1 that 9:00am is pretty early and they don't always want to be first, so next time we do it I will rotate the period times.

My google meet today will be a regular drop in. I will be in my "office" from 9am -11am. You can use the same link that we have been using.

Today you will be working on understanding that fractions are division problems.  For the IXL, you do need to write your answer as a mixed number!  For the IXL practice, I recommend drawing pictures so that you know what is being divided by what.

As always, please email me with any questions.

Have a great day!

I made this snowman with this cool website that Dakota shared with me yesterday!

Good morning! Happy Wednesday!

The snow was so pretty yesterday. I did take Lucy for a walk at lunchtime before all of the snow melted.

Today you will be working on multiplying mixed numbers. You can use a calculator to multiply the larger numbers. But you also use the method in the video to simplify the multiplication problem by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number. For all of the assignments, it is ok to leave your answer as an improper fraction.

Unfortunately, student emails were down all morning yesterday, so that messed up our class google meets.  I would like to try it again today. I'll see if there are any whole class questions and then we can do a whole class quizizz!  I hope to see you there!

Yay!!! It snowed!! You all know how much I love snow! I hope I get a chance to get out and play in it before it all melts.

Good morning!

Welcome to the first day of “distance learning”!  First of all, I hope all of your family is safe and healthy.

I also wanted to make sure that you knew that you can get lunch from 11am-1am at Kaler School and at the Pine Street Little League field.  I also believe you can pick up dinner at the Boys and Girl Club.

So, what is this online learning going to look like?   I will continue to use my website to post information for you.  For the next week and a half we will review fractions and decimals - Fun!!  Any assignments that I give you will be due by 9am the next day. Please check the website each day for details.

Even though we won’t be at school together, you can still contact me. I will hold “virtual” classroom time from 9am to 11am every day.  I will create a google “meet” session where you can pop in and ask questions or just say Hi. Check your email around 9:00 for the code. (Please let me know if you don't get the email!)  I will also be checking email regularly during the school day, so please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I have moved the due date for the Khan Academy assignments for the unit, but still feel free to work on them!  I also sent you an email if you owed me any missing work. I’d be happy to answer questions about both.

Enjoy your first day back to school!
